Not because the roads are bad, etc., but with the money that we have for roads/transport - we could get so much more.
Bus lanes, cycle lanes, Luas lanes, what a joke. Where will all the money come from if people stopped driving their cars?
Why doesn’t he kill off the road tax and put the tax on petrol? (In fairness hardly any goes into the roads anyway!) This way whoever drives the most pays the most. Is it right that someone who owns a 7 litre car but only drives once a year pay the same tax as someone who owns a 2 litre car and does 20,000 miles every year?
Where’s the “green” in that?
Why is it that in every country in Europe people can cross the street without having a road block caused by traffic lights? Only in Ireland do all 4 roads at the intersection have to be red before the pedestrian light goes green.
Why is it that you can _never_ make the green light at 50km/h but … if you increase your speed to 80km/h then you get everyone of them? This is when the speed limit for the road is 50km/h
Why are we bothering with an underground system when we really should just go for a far cheaper and cost effective solution like overhead rails?
Why is it costing so damned much to build 47km of the N3? Could they not just have done the
paper work earlier?
Why are we paying for automatic tolling to be installed when it would be cheaper and better to just remove “all limits” i.e. tolling of any kind. I mean, don’t we pay road tax to use the road? Is the M50, N7, M1 private property? If so, why? Didn’t we just spend an awful lot of money to buy them? If not, then shouldn’t we do that?
Lets look at any number of examples, a country with good infrastructure is going to do well. When
you start taxing and slowing down the development of infrastructure of course you are going to have
a hard time.
Perhaps the solution is not just to build some roads here and some roads there - but to build roads
EVERYWHERE! Why does the main highway from Dublin to Cork (the two largest cities in the country) go down to 1 lane in either direction????
I would love to run for the Minister of Transport but alas he has to be selected by the polical party in
power. If any polical party wishes to include me in the next election, please let me know!
I, for one, do think it’s possible to get a decent transport system in this country without having
to make millionaires out of builders!

Not with his decision to allow the RPA to make Metro North a low capacity light rail system. Show some sense and leadership Mr. Dempsey!
Worst transport system in Europe.
