This morning when I was leaving my daughter to school we had to go up one of the back roads. There is a lot of building work going on here & there was a Volvo stopped in the middle of the road. The driver was out moving the barriers to get in. Now there was enough room for me to squeeze by on the right, however there is a big ditch & no verges there. Because of this the road has sloped down & the amount of cars that go in there every month is insane.

Because of this I wasn’t going to push past. I hung back & put on my double flashers. The guy only had to move 2 barriers & he wasn’t even 3 minutes doing this. In this time some fella (about 24-25) came up behind me. He came right up to me then to my shock he went around me! Now there was more then enough room to get around me, but then I see this idiot going by the Volvo! What was the point of that. He hadn’t even gone around the corner a few feet up the road when the Volvo had moved! What was the point of it? This guy took the chance of ending up in a ditch all for the sake of about 40 seconds! I just find it insane.

People on the roads of Ireland need to have more patience. Especially on the really bad back roads. They are dangerous in places. People just need to take a deep breath & relax on the roads when there is a chance of injury to someone. What is the point of rushing headlong into your coffin?

Right, where do I start. I suppose firstly I have to thank the woman in the white car going down the old Rahoon road yesterday morning who was with it enough to see what was happening. Had it not been for her I’d have been a goner!

I was going up the road to my parents & stopped to give a friend of mine a lift. I pulled off & thankfully I had not enough time to build up any speed when there was a junction on my left. I seen this white Toyota coming up to the stop line. He slowed & I thought he had stopped. How wrong was I! The woman in the white car seen what was happening & moved over to leave space for me to get into just as the idiot flew out over the line & drove up the road. I think there was smoke coming out of my tyres I was braking so hard. He didn’t even tip his breaks! I checked to see was everyone ok, the woman said she was & just had gotten a fright. I thanked her & then headed off up the road after the idiot. I flashed him to stop & got the shock of my life to see the man was at least in his mid 60s! He was all apologies but I have to admit I let fly at him. I asked him did he not know that there was crashes at that corner every day! I also told him he was lucky if I didn’t give his number to the Gardai.
When I got to my mothers I could hardly get in the gate. My leg was shaking so much I couldn’t even press the accelerator. Thankfully Marcio (my friend) calmed me down. I just couldn’t believe what had happened.

I had a few more idiots yesterday but none as bad as that. Then came this morning. Oh my! They were really out in force this morning.

I had a short enough journey across town this morning but it started as it meant to go on. I pulled out of my estate behind a car & thought nothing of it at first, then I realised it was a breaker. You know the ones. There is a car 1/2 a mile up the road so the breaks get slammed just in case it comes anywhere near her! & before you ask, no there were no L plates!

Thankfully they weren’t in front of me for long. Then I got the most gobsmackingly stupid driver in front of me. Going down Bishop O’Donnell road at at least 20mph she took both hands off the wheel to adjust the visor so it was to her right because the sun was glaring in. Ok, that was bad but she just kept going. No hands on the wheel because they were both now fluffing up her hair. At the same speed!!!!! Then comes the make-up application. Oh ya, I forgot to say that in this time she had got her rear view mirror & turned it totally towards her so she could check to make sure she was looking her best for the ambulance men as they cut her out of her car! This continued out to the lights on the Quincentennial Bridge. Where she proceeded to play with the child in the back seat. Yes! I’m serious! She was in a maroon Peugeot. You know who you are.

After that I was going out the Headford road & there was a woman in a big black Audi who couldn’t understand why she couldn’t just use both lanes when I was right beside her back tyre! Ahhh, no thanks, I want to keep my bonnet for some stupid reason! Things weren’t too bad until I got to the roundabout at Briar Hill! To the woman in the black Merc, IT’S A 2 LANE ROUNDABOUT! Not 3!!!! For some idiotic reason she squeezed between myself & the car beside me! We had no choice but to let her go. She sure as hell wasn’t stopping! They should all go get a copy of the rules of the road book!

As for the twit this evening at Cooks corner in the Chav Wagon… I’ll leave her for another post!

Sorry for the long rant, but they have gone insane in Galway the last few days. I know there’s Crypto in Clarenbridge, but I don’t think that can even be blamed for all this stupidity on our roads!

Then there’s the other type of person who don’t want to get caught driving while on the phone so when their phone goes off they have to slam the breaks & pull over to the side of the road. Not giving a damn for the line of drivers behind them who then have to try to get around them – as happened to me today going down Taylors Hill.

This guys phone went off (he was a few cars ahead of me) so I seen what was happening & adjusted my driving accordingly. All of the drivers behind him waited to see what he would do. Eventually he just pulled in to the curb, on a bad corner, on a narrow stretch of the road & started yacking away! So what if us other drivers had to risk getting mowed down by drivers coming the other way. The call was too important to miss!

Why can’t people just get cheap blue-tooth systems? They’re not that hard to come by & as far as I know they are fitted in almost all new cars now. I know it is in my fathers & it’s quite a good 1!

What are other peoples views on this? Should blue-tooth systems be compulsory in all cars?

Everyone can see the beautiful dry weather we have here. As if! Traction is not great on a wet day! So when I’m driving into my estate (slowly thankfully) & I see a little boy bollix coming at me sideways around a corner on a day as wet as today of course I panic! God knows how I’m still here. Well at least I hope He does because I know I definitely don’t!

Please can anyone out there explain to me what the fun is in that? Who finds crap like this entertaining?

Well put it this way I’m saying it here & now if I ever see that car in here again he will be going out without a windscreen! & that’s a promise! These idiots deserve to be tied together & dropped in the middle of the ocean!

`- & before I get all the bleeding heart liberals shouting at me how they’re poor misunderstood children save it! I don’t want to hear any of it! That little piece of dirt nearly took myself & my 10 yr old daughter out! If I ever get my hands on him I’ll do time!

This drives me insane in Galway City. People are just so selfish when it comes to parking. The worst offenders for me are out in Joyces Supermarket in Knocknacarra. I have to say when they are told about it they are very quick to call out the reg number & explain to the people they have to move their cars. But they shouldn’t have to do this. The spaces are painted bright blue & have big white wheelchairs on them. What’s so difficult to figure out about that?

   

Coming home from dinner on Sunday I came upon this! Thankfully there was no one hurt! (No thanks to the “Eastern European” driver. Not being racist, just honest) This poor woman’s bumper was 1/2 way up the hill.

What happened was this woman was coming out of the Clybawn road & next thing she knew this guy was plowing into her. He came out of nowhere! He was going amazing speed!He couldn’t stop, he couldn’t avoid her. He was going so fast he couldn’t stop for a good stretch after he hit her.

As you can see from this shot he just kept going! The woman’s number plate & bumper are up on the wall! That is where they landed! What I couldn’t get over was when I went up to them to see what was going on 1 of the Eastern European guys started walking down the road flagging down a Taxi. Just as the Taxi pulled up the other guy said the one getting in the taxi was driving! 1 of the women ran down after him & got him back out of the taxi. He kept saying he wasn’t the 1 driving! So I don’t know if they found out who was driving in the end I just felt so sorry for the women in the car he hit. & they will still not slow down! What is it going to take for people to slow down on the road?  I know I’m going slower since this.

As she’s pulling off this big lorry comes barreling through the intersection from the right. The lights had  been red for quite a while on his side so he can’t say he didn’t have time to break. Thankfully the elderly lady was quick enough to think to put on the breaks. As the lorry speeds by to my amazement the driver in shock puts his hands on his head. I’m sure he thought he was over the top of the woman. I know I did! He just kept going.

Some of these construction lorry drivers think they above the law. & with the amount of them that get done for their wreckless driving I think they may be.

Don’t get me started on Volvo drivers. Since they brought in the shock absorbing seats they go whatever speed they want. Why do they need to stop?
