it finally happened.
There’s no reason this shouldn’t apply to pillocks in SUV’s towing horseboxes at 40 km/h.
So, get your videocamera out, have the passenger film proceedings and bring the evidence to the Gards.
With a bit of luck that b*stard won’t be holding anyone up for a year or so.

fair point Joanne. Not all horsebox drivers are rubbish. But most are. The same way not every driver in Ireland is rubbish, but most are.

Having driven all around the country for the best part of eight years i have seen a lot of bad drivers doing absolutely insane things.

And from being stuck behind ignorant horsebox drivers, i can vouch that 9/10 of them are ignorant and selfish when it comes to other roadusers.

There are obviously exceptions to every rule, and not all horsebox drivers behave that way.

One example of ingnorance (not just of horsebox drivers) is moving into the outside lane when traffic is entering the dual carriageway/motorway. Barely anyone obeys this law and it causes merging traffic to slow down considerably. Thus when the vehicle finally enters the traffic, it is not going anywhere near the required speed. This causes traffic to slow down to accomodate the newly merged vehicle.

Simple solution: move out of the way of merging traffic on dual carriageways and motorways….please!

I agree with Joanne, its very bad of the boy racers to clip a horsebox and drive on oblivious of the carnage and death of a horse. Where really the polite thing would have been to stop, and see if the horse was dead, if it was, then pick it up and huge BBQ …partttyyyyyyy….maybe the boy racers wouldnt have hit it if the dick would have pulled over and let people pass as in previous threads. The thing i have found in ireland and driving, is that nobody actually cares for anyone else on the road, 98 per cent of people dont read the road ahead, yellow boxes, for instance, idiots stuck in them coz they dont read the road ahead….and dont even get me started on the biggetst idiots on the road….taxi drivers….

Not all horseboxes, only about 90% of them.
Farmers towing cattle usually oblige and let you buy, but big, shiny, new 4×4′s the size of houses usually get a fit when you dare to overtake them.
One guy went up to over 120 km/h, only to slow back down to 60. If that doesn’t scream f***k you, nothing does.

there shud also be a law to put arses like you who posted this comment in the first place in a dark room for a very long time!! iv went from an ancient aul wooden trailer an car to a new 4×4 an trailer which iv worked my nuts off to get so that my horse an myself are safe. dont tar all horsebos owners with the same stick plz. iv seen the devastation caused by boy racers on the wrong side of road head on an also after clipping a friends trailer on a country road resulting in death to the horse as they drove on oblivious. your comments show u as an arse.get a life!!

Not so much the SUV thing, it’s more the whole package. Made his money building shitty housing estates, buys SUV, horse and box and sets about the road. Everyone else is just muck. Fine by me, but this guy was ahead for the best part of an HOUR and he had another car following him at such a distance that it was actually impossible to overtake at all. There where plenty of points for him to pull in, but I suppose once you have that kind of money you don’t move over for the little people.
In short, arrogant prick.
And this whole “I’m entitled to be on the road” attitude makes me want to buy an SUV and box myself, trundle through all of Ireland up and down at 40 km/h in the middle of the road with exactly that written on the back of it on a large sign.
There would be a law requiring pricks to pull over in a week.

What was the condition of the road/shoulder though? Was it bumpy and full of large puddles that could send a trailer astray (in which case he was perfectly within his rights so stay where he was) – or was it a large main road with perfect conditions (in which case he SHOULD have pulled in and allowed people to pass).

Regarding the SUV thing – I think moorists who pull a horse trailer are obliged to have them, rather than cars. I could be mistaken but I heard before that that was the case

Pity the horse hadn’t got a driving licence.
There were three brains in this situation.
1. The brain under the bonnet, better known as the computer or ECU.
2.The horse and its brain, a marvel of nature.
3. The driver with a so called brain located in a place where his or her arse should be found. This possibly explains why no matter how much you try to explain to these arseholes the problems associated with driving practices the more shit they throw back at ye, as they blame everyone else except themselves.
Next time you come across a similar situation and you want to get your point across, wait until the car stops at a traffic light, step out of your car and go and have a quiet whisper with the horse. You will probably get a better and more intelligent reply to your questions.
