I just don’t get it! Why is it all rush, rush, rush? Why push other drivers when there’s need to?
This morning when I was leaving my daughter to school we had to go up one of the back roads. There is a lot of building work going on here & there was a Volvo stopped in the middle of the road. The driver was out moving the barriers to get in. Now there was enough room for me to squeeze by on the right, however there is a big ditch & no verges there. Because of this the road has sloped down & the amount of cars that go in there every month is insane.
Because of this I wasn’t going to push past. I hung back & put on my double flashers. The guy only had to move 2 barriers & he wasn’t even 3 minutes doing this. In this time some fella (about 24-25) came up behind me. He came right up to me then to my shock he went around me! Now there was more then enough room to get around me, but then I see this idiot going by the Volvo! What was the point of that. He hadn’t even gone around the corner a few feet up the road when the Volvo had moved! What was the point of it? This guy took the chance of ending up in a ditch all for the sake of about 40 seconds! I just find it insane.
People on the roads of Ireland need to have more patience. Especially on the really bad back roads. They are dangerous in places. People just need to take a deep breath & relax on the roads when there is a chance of injury to someone. What is the point of rushing headlong into your coffin?

thank god, I am not alone! well said galwaynutter and I agree with you 100%. Its amazing how people wont wait 10 seconds, its like waiting is a crime.
Happened to me in waterford recently, coming up to a T Junction and a car was in front of me was going right and I was going left, so there was not enough space for me to go kinda left if you know what I mean, so I stayed put like a safe driver that I am. suddenly, car raced behind me beeping me to go on, so I had no choice to squeeze myself between the wall and the poor car in front, nearly going on the footpath. Remember I could not see right because the car that was in front of me was blocking me on the right.
and they say speed is the main reason for crashes. Impatient, stupid behaviour witnessed by galwaynutter is a clear example as why they are so many killed on our roads.
Galway nutter: so true. People seem to feel their lives will evaporate if they slow down even for only a few seconds.
And chikuu_watd – you DID have a choice. To remain where you were rather than let some brainless fathead get his/her own wilful way. Bullies rule our roads because we let them!
@ kalia.
ur right I could have.
Perhaps he was a better driver than you?
Dahamsta it has nothing to do with my ability to drive, which is quite good considering I passed my driving test on Friday. It has to do with the fact that weather he was a good driver or not there was no reason to push by! All he had to do was wait for another 40 seconds & the Volvo would have been gone. I had my young daughter in the car so I was not going to chance ending up in the ditch. The road he was on is falling away. Only 6 months ago there was a wall there now there is nothing! It has fallen away totally! What if he hadn't have made it? I would have been stuck there for God knows how long waiting for the Gardai & Ambulance to get there.
& chikuu_watd yes you could have waited, but I know how you feel. It's intimidating when someone comes up behind you like that! I see all these new shiny Garda cars on our roads saying "Garda Traffic Corps" but I only ever see them driving around, not actually stopping anyone!
Do you think maybe Galwaynutter that the guy behind you might have thought that you were broken down …you did say you had your "hazards" on……every reason for him to overtake you…theres a very thin line between patience and impatience when it comes to driving….
I just cant understand some (many) peoples behaviour on our roads….How many times have you been driving along the motorway/dueller in the outside lane minding your own business when suddenly your mirrors are full of "van"….yep there he is ……vanman …dayglo jacket covered in coffee and last weeks breakfast roll (with xxtra ketchup ..copy of "ratS ehT" on the dashboard…red faced , screaming obsenities and spit at his windscreen like it had just run over his telly remote control……and you think to yourself "huh.. need'nt think i'm gettin out of HIS way….no way Jose….and you probably let off your right foot a wee bit too…..
Hands up if this is you…and we'll all have a good oul laugh…
Heres a possible out come …
Janice has awoke (or worse..did'nt) to find a smell of gas in the kitchen, but luckily she's seen all the adverts on the telly…DONT TURN ON LIGHTS..etc… so she gets the kids out of bed and waits outside where she rings Bord Gais who ring Mick the plumber who's in the middle of his brekky roll when he gets the emergency call…do you see where i'm goin here …?
Up shot here is ..these guys milling around in their vans are actually "at work"… so the next time you're sitting at home waiting for someone to fix your new telly or a water /gas leak, …just remember there's some twat deliberately holding up Mick….
Right, firstly Clarkson you could see I wasn't broken down, do you remember how cold it was yesterday morning? You could clearly see my exhaust fumes. Secondly the Volvo driver motioned to me he'd be a minute & I waved to him, but this guy wasn't willing to wait in his banger beamer for the 40 seconds it took.
Now on to your other subject. I am a truckers daughter so if there is either a truck or a van behind me & I can safely get out of the way I will! Simple as that. But I will not endanger myself or my child to do so!
You're missing the point Mother, Truckers daughter….You were sitting there with your hazards on..the possiblities are endless..your engine was running….so what, your gearbox could be knackered, you might be on your phone, he might have thought YOU were turning in with the Volve too….
If you just sit in the road with your hazards on how do you expect people to know what your at…where was the hazard, you sitting there. ?in my opinion there Was no hazard and if you had just sat there without them on i doubt if that guy would have passed you…no i'm sorry theres far too many people using their hazards for any reason nowadays…
How is it Galway Nutter, that every time I read your posts (and there's a lot of them) the Bonnie Langford phrase 'I'll scweem and I'll scweem and I'll scweem til I'm sick' comes to mind. Did you get out of your car and stamp your feet?
Clarkson. You sit in the outside lane of dual carriageways and deliberately hold up others and even slow down when they want to pass? That's appaling and only because the Irish are so whimpy and timid on the road can anyone get away with this.
In Germany: Pulled over, pulled out, beaten up.
England: Stabbed
US: Shot without warning.
Only the Irish will just sit and quietly stew at any problem without ever really doing anything.
No wonder everyone's red faced and screaming at you, what I usually do is just to slowly drift past the inside of any git deliberately holding up the fast lane, drift in in front of him and slow down to 60 km/h, speeding up any time he wants to overtake me. And I sit back and laugh and laugh and laugh at HIS purple face, spit speckled windscreen, car swerving erratically and blood pressure approaching critical.
Puts me in a good mood for days.
To be honest Clarkson if you want a row please go somewhere else. I do not use my hazards without good cause. If your limited intellect doesn't see a hulking great Volvo in the middle of the road a hazard it's you that has the problem not me! Also the Volvo was turning into a field, unless he's a total idiot (which is also possible) he is not going to think I was turning with the guy!
No..this is better…"What if he had'nt have made it.I would have been stuck there for God knows how long waiting for the Gardai and Ambulance to arrive."….and this from someone complaining about "patience"…..
Ok, I've spamed the gobshites who are just interested in fights. This is not why I post on this site. I have had enough of it! If you are interested in having a discussion about what I've posted fine, I will discuss it with you. If you want to attack me personally that is your decision so please don't be surprised when your comment is removed!
Brian Healy, Is this site not for posting about shite drivers? Am I not allowed to post on this site? Or maybe you're 1 of the drivers I've posted about, is that why you're so touchy. If I have something to post about, I will. When you want to be adult enough to come have a discussion about things please feel free. Until such time please keep your nastiness to yourself!
Galwaynutter I don't understand what this guy did to upset you. It didn't affect anything you were doing. Is it because he got in front of you that you were so angry? And so what if he did disappear into the ditch? Why would you have to wait for the Gardai and an ambulance? Leave him there. One of the biggest problems on our roads is our obsession with what others are doing. Getting stressed by other peoples bad driving is doing you more harm than you realise. I remember some years ago a journalist writing about the 12th of July Marches in the North ; he suggested that instead of the Nationalist community getting so wound up by the Orangemen marching through their areas, they should instead laugh at them! Try it the next time someone does something that annoys you on the road, laugh at them – you'll feel better and they'll feel like the gobshites that they are!
