Full lights or dips??!!

This is one of my major pet hates.  I know that sometimes you might not dip quickly enough when a car is coming, I’ve done it once or twice myself.  But what really gets me is the amount of people who do dip, but then turn their full lights back on before they’ve actually driven passed you!!  The last time I was driving back home from Cork, every third or fourth car that passed did that to me!!  Its extremely dangerous, each time it happened I was temporarily blinded for 2-3 seconds!!  If anything ran out in front of me I wouldn’t have seen it!!  I have a little habit myself of waiting a second or two after the car has passed before putting my full lights back on, just in case.  Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone else hate this as much as I do???

Do you drive with front fogs on at night? I do this (full beam right into their eyes) to all oncoming drivers who drive with front fogs switched on at night. Front fog lights are high intensity lights – and are never meant to be used at night.  What is it with peoples addiction to front fogs?  It's simple – no fog – leave 'em off.  They blind oncoming drivers. And no – they do not make you or your car look "cooler" . No offense Lynharry if you are one of the good drivers, who leaves the fogs off.

yes, and im usually very quick on the lights if I get flashed to dip them, but I HATE when they put up the fulls just before they have passed you are left blinded and its very dangerous, iv nearly ended up in the ditch more than once because of this!!!

Don't mind front fogs so much, but having to follow someone with his rear fogs switched on, on a perfectly clear night drives me damn near postal!
I had several cars in front of me with their rear fogs on. First I flash politely once or twice and give them 30 seconds to figure out what's wrong. Invariably they don't. Then I put on my front fogs and crank my lights up while still flashing them. At that point they usually have absolutely no idea what's going on, nor do they normally notice that I'm even there.
Then I put on my full lights constantly. At that stage the person in front of my finally realises that he has no idea what's wrong and he can't figure out why people behind him keep flashing, beeping and swearing at him.
I even once got out in a traffic jam and asked the woman in front if she could please, if it's not too much trouble, thank you very much, turn off her rear fogs, too kind, thank you again. (Yes, I was being nice)
She complied, turned off her fogs, drove off and 10 seconds later turned them on again. Beeping, flashing, swearing, full lights, etc… all to no avail.
My final conclusion: Some people are fick (not even deserving of the th), with a capital F. They usually also have 2-3 tyres that are down, never checked the oil and generally believe that sunlight damages the engine, so they never open the bonnet.
They have no idea what's going on around them, they have a room temperature IQ and if you handed them over to a scientist, he would doubt that he is dealing with a sentient being here.
They wouldn't find their own arse with both hands, even if it was on fire and they had use of a sat nav system.
They cannot be helped, they cannot be trained or educated, best would be to put them gently out of their suffering, or lock them into a nice room with soft walls where they cannot do any more damage.

I have to say I'm usually pretty quick to dip my lights. & I wait until cars are gone by before putting them up again.
I don't mind front fogs as much as I do back fogs though. They burn the eyes out of me totally. It drives me mad. I have a photo-sensitivity & harsh lights hurt so you can imagine how much back fogs hurt!

upon questioning it turns out she belives you should us your highbeams at ALL times  unless your parked at the side of the road….then you swicth to normal lights.

her other views are best left for a different post.

I "full beam" anyone with fogs on…front or rear.

Mind you, I don't agree people do it to look cool……………most nissan micras use their front fogs and you couldn't look cool in a micra if you filled it with ice cubes !!

I think people just think they are extra light to be used at will.

Yes John………..bullet in the head….only answer.

Been havin a few problems with posting a comment the last few days so I'll try again!!

    @ CU NextTuesday:
No offence taken!!  I actually don't have front fog lights, my car is a very basic Fiesta, it doesn't even have power steering!!  Thats another pet hate I have to say!!

@ John Smith & Galway Nutter:
Rear fogs are the bane of my existence at this stage!!  The last time it was really foggy every second car around Carlow town had their rear fog lights on, presumably because they forgot to turn them off after driving into town from country roads!!  They're a killer!!

    @ coalie:
you have got to be kidding me!!  I really hope I don't ever meet her while I'm out driving at night!!

Thanks for all the comments guys, this was my first post so its great to get them!!

I hate people who wait until they see you dip before they dip. I often dip in advance of a car coming around a bend because you'll generally see the beam changing in the dark when an oncoming car. I used to go out with someone who despite seeing the beams of an oncoming car change to dimmed she STILL kept her beams on full until the car was head on – just so he'd SEE her dimming the lights. And all despite the fact she'd often see the other car dipping their own lights before the car itself came into view. Really p***ed me off every time I saw it.
