1 Park on the footpath and force pedestrians to walk on the road. Convicted.. 5 points
2 Abuse the BanGarda who tickets you in the course of her duties. She inspects your vehicle and finds three defects. 4 points
3 Drive away without fastening your safety belt. Ban Garda chases you. Convicted 4 points
Licence gone!
Any other suggestions – who can do it in 2 steps. ( no drink driving conviction please – this is not a points issue – your licence just disappears in a puff of smoke ).
If your vehicle is commercial vehicle and you were smoking when the fine lady came upon you then there is a hefty fine for smoking in business premises. You are now having fun!!

Ceanna,
I hate to burst your bubble and point out that your assumptions are incorrect.
1. Only the highest penalty points offence count when the points are applied to your licence. The others do not.
The only way to achieve your goal is to speed through several cameras in different locations or drive at speed past the same one until you get the amount of points needed to lose your licence.
2. There is no such thing as a Ban Garda. There are male and female Gardai ( singular Garda ). There is no title that recognises a difference in gender in the Garda organisation.
The ‘fine lady’ you are referring to is the H.S.E.
You have not burst my bubble – since your statements are all incorrect.
female = n baineannach
female = adj baineann
female = ban-
garda (m) bangarda(f) as Gaeilge. [ban-garda]
Gender exists. Live with it.
As for consecutive or concurrent offences – that is up to the judge on conviction. Sorry.
I repeat there is no such title as Ban Garda in the Irish police force.
There is no differentiation made regarding gender in any of the various ranks as I said “in the Garda Organisation”.
Gender exists all right, but only on toilet doors !
Fines on the spot do not involve a court appearance unless the person to whom they were issued refuses to pay them. Why any one would want to do that and risk a heavier penalty, you tell me.
Your post referred to fines on the spot issued by a ‘Ban Garda’ not a court appearance as a result of non payment.
If you really want to lose your licence in one go, just drive on the wrong side of the road from Galway to Dublin. Prior to doing that take an ad. out in the local paper stating your intention and show it to the various Guards that stop you on your journey. That should do the trick regarding the loss of yuor licence.
Sorry to burst your bubble….once again!
As the site title says.
SHITEDRIVERS.COM
Bad driving on Irish roads exposed.
And that’s what it’s all about. Not reading tit for tat comments from two twits who have nothing better to do.
Absolutely right, these two need to get out more.
Agree with the tit for tat comment.
Anyway – has anybody ever been convicted for parking on the pavement and got the requisite points? This seems to be a fantasy offence as I daily see gardai walk past cars parked up on the pavement.
If they really wanted to do something they could wander 5 feet outside of Harcourt St and convict a couple of their own for the offence. If there is a need to have parking there then let the Corpo put in a parking bay – but of course they can’t because its on a junction at traffic lights and you wouldn’t want people reversing out into traffic would you????
If they don’t want to do their own they could wander a bit further on to South Richmond St – plenty of pickings there.
What about estate agents who put up big ass signs on footpaths and force pedestrians to walk on the main road. Theres one just outside of our estate that forces people to have to walk on the raod because of the HUGE concrete slab that the sign is on. I know its not technically caused by a shite driver!
Gerlimk,
A. If you have nothing informative to add to the debate then dont add anything. I dont have a problem engaging in informed debate on topics of interest. I dont have a problem with those that disagree with my point of view and if a reasonable argument is made I may change my stance on particular issues.
B. If you do not have an answer to the question posed by Ceanna ( a reasonable question ) do not get frustrated or angry.
I am led to believe that you have no opinion on the application of penalty points or how one could amass the required number in the shortest time so as to lose ones licence.
C. If we are “two twits who have nothing better to do” as you have said, why are you wasting your time by reading the comments and then commenting on them ?
Wasting your time commenting on others who (in your opinion ) are wasting your time ! That is not a very effective way to use ones time, is it ?
Shite drivers eh?
This is how many other such boards have gone. Petty bickering between contributors and slow moderation by the site owners.
I’ll only be modding comments that could get someone sued!
Your loss Colm.
Rollin Robin, You saw gardai WALKING???Not in West Cork you won’t.You might see them standing at roadside checks but not often!
@PatM – I’ve nothing to lose PatM, Niall gave a few of us modding powers and his only instructions were to edit stuff that’ll get him in trouble. Until I hear otherwise, it’s not my site to edit.
Miaowww
Clearly you are unable or unwilling to actually read whet is written.
1 If you read my post it clearly says “Convicted” in two places. No where was on-the spot nonsense mentioned. Read before you rant.
2 If you are a girly – look at your pay package and see if gender exists or not. Do you earn the same as your boy colleagues. If you do then you are in the minority.
3 If you are in fact a girly garda then my reply made it quite clear ( but then of course you don’t actually bother to read ) that “Ban Garda” is a legitimate translation of a girly person in the police business. Not a rank or grade.
4 What are “Guards”??
5 How did you get messed up about the gender business. Who burst your bubble?
My bubble remains intact. You need to try better that that girly.
RollinRobin
It seems most offences are fantasy offences asfar as the Gardai are conceerned. I invite you to read Gaybo’s Rules of the Road in regard to parking on footpaths.
Miaowww
You are correct.
gerlimk need to get a life.
These boards are useless unless the discussion becomes vigourous – so long as the issues are addressed first.
At least you tried to addressthe issue – even if you were wrong.
Ceanna,
Do not lose the rag before you read all I have written.
1. All the offences you mentioned in your comments are dealt with by ‘on the spot fines’. It is not as you have described it ‘on the spot fines nonsense’. It is reality. Fines on the spot BEFORE going to court.
The only time you are ‘convicted’ is when you refuse to pay the on the spot fines and appear in court and and are convicted.
A fine on the spot offence is not regarded as a ‘conviction’ in the accepted sense of the use of that word.
The points applied to a ‘convicted’ persons licence following their court appearance are increased.
2. Gardai (male and female) are paid the same wages (depending on rank and length of service) and females are not discriminated against because of their gender, race or religion. ( source http://www.garda.ie )
3. I dont know where you are going on the ‘girly garda’ line. The word Garda is asexual and the term Ban Garda is defunct since the last century.
4. ‘Guards’ are the men and women who enforce the law in Ireland. They are probably never around when you need one but there are more than enough around when one does something wrong (usually a minor driving offence).
5. You will have to buy some more washing up liquid ( large one ) to replace the bubbles I have burst !
I have a feeling that this is the start of a beautiful relationship Ceanna. More power to you. I still do not agree with EVERYTHING you say, but I can see where you are comming from and how you jumped to conclusions as you put it yourself “even if you were wrong”.
Beir bua.
L.O.L. What’ IS IT WITH YOU and the girly thing? LMAO
To reiterate what Colm has said: Niall gave a few of us modding powers and his only instructions were to edit stuff that’ll get him in trouble. Until we hear otherwise, it’s not our site to edit.
My understanding of Niall’s intentions for the site are as stated in the Disclaimer: the purpose of this web site is to promote good driving by exposing the bad and ugly side of driving in Ireland. It is designed simply for the purpose pointing out situations which we, the authors, have decided are shining examples of the incredible amount of simply terrible driving which blights the roads and motorways of our country today.
We are not claiming to be perfect drivers ourselves by any means, but we do believe that, by any standards, the example shown by many of the drivers documented in the articles on this site would make any half-decent driver look like a saint.
Nowhere in the disclaimer are the terms discussion, debate or board mentioned. The terms contributor and author are used (many times) and refer to those who submit articles to the site. Those articles are what are important. Comments thereon are a secondary compliment.
That is why Niall opted for a blog. It is the perfect tool to allow a large number of registered users to upload articles to a site without relying on the services of an administrator or webmaster, and incidentally, for all users to comment on those articles.
Somehow, in it’s short lifetime, a number of visitors have come to view the site as a message board or discussion forum. I can only surmise this is because they have used boards before but not blogs. If Niall had wished he could have setup a board. He didn’t. In fact he even included a link on the site to a motoring board for those who prefer that form of website.
Articles published here are a means of exposing the bad and ugly side of driving in Ireland. Comments on those articles help. Comments on comments can help too. But when commenting degrades to two or more individuals conducting personal attacks on each other it is not helpful. It exposes the bad and ugly side of something other than driving.
However, the current policy only covers removing posts and comments that are potentially libellous. For now all non-libellous comments are being let through and we are relying on the courtesy, manners and common sense of visitors. This is under constant review and may have to be changed in the near future.
Bottom line: This is a blog. It is not a message board or discussion forum. Visitors who prefer a board format are catered for elsewhere.
I would like to say that i don’t have a life and i enjoy reading the tit for tat comments from the the two “twits”, i also love thier names.
l know this isn’t a message board but what the hell, it’s much more fun reading about two “twits” getting excited about “how to collect 12 points in one go” than reading about what yellow boxes are for.
so if you have nothing informative
to add this debate then don’t add anything.. love it. lol

I never loose the rg but you have lost the plot – at least of this post. Read the original post again. In baby English – since Irish is not your strong point it seems. The post clear refers to conviction – however this may have been achieved. What is your problem with this?
There is no use in continuing on the subject of Ban Garda (ai). You just don’t understand. The translation is the translation. End of argument. Are you trying to imply that the translation might be obsolete. It’s not – no more than any other use of the prefix “ban”. The Irish language version of “female Garda” is Ban Garda. Nothing changes this.
You keep rattling on about ranks and conditions. I never raised this- this is your owntopic and you’re welcometo it. I have no interest.
Garda Siochana is a translation/ or is translated as Guardian of the Peace. So the English language TRANSLATION is “Guardian” – and not “Guard” To adopt English by equivalence the wordi s “policeman or policewoman”-maybe you would prefer policeperson in your political correctness.
I think this is enough entertainment for the twit watchers
No that’s NOT enough, it’s never enough, don’t stop nowww.. just one last time, the Ban thing? what’s that all about? is it still in use today?
or is it banned?
and has any of this got anything to do the Garda Band?
PS. we told you already, this is NOT MESSAGE BOARD.
Stopped for speeding: 2
Dangerous Overtaking while being caught for speeding: 2
Running a red light while you’re at it: 2
No Seat Belt: 2
Your Kids not belted up: 2
On the phone: 2
License gone and that’s only page 1 of the penalty points offenses list.
I recently saw a woman driving an SUV with 2 kids in front passenger seat,4 kids in rear seat and 2 in boot, none with seatbelts(mummy was belted,in fairness). At 2 points per unbelted passenger thats 16 points in total or how to loose your licence in 1 go.
As the administrator of the site, and having only gotten back from a much-needed holiday myself (with an exhausting return trip, which I’m still not properly over), all I can say is that Primal Sneeze’s last comment summed things up PERFECTLY. Read it, please.
I COULD HAVE opted to put a message board up here. I didn’t. It’s a blog… for now.
I MAY opt to put a message board up here at a later stage, but I don’t see it happening just yet. For now the blog format will do just fine, and I would ask all users to stick with that format.
Now I’m now going to go get my best nights sleep in a long time.
Thanks to the Editors/Moderators who’ve looked after the site in my absence. I appreciate you’re continued help, although- I am back now.
Goodnight!
