There I was cruising along at an appropriate speed following another driver also driving at an appropriate speed for the road we were on, when out of nowhere a Polish reg car comes tearing up behind me, naturally I looked around to see what the road conditions were like to see if I could aid his next assumed move. No sooner had I thought about it and he was along side me on a solid white line approaching a blind bend. An SUV suddenly emerged coming in the opposite direction, I jumped on the brakes the idiot dived into the space I created and gave me the little wave to say thanks for not allowing him, me and probably the SUV driver from being killed. No sooner had the incident passed and the idiot was away again still on a solid white line overtaking willy nilly. I called the cops, they were as useful as knickers on a hooker. Anyway after I calmed down and had travelled another 15 Km’s who should I have the pleasure of arriving behind only the idiot. This was when I discovered that the twat was driving a Polish registered car, I got a picture and rang the useful Garda and they said they would deal with it, more to get me of the phone I guess.

Your post is racist and should be removed by the moderators of this board. The idiot driver is an idiot not because he is Polish, but because he can not drive. Please rename your post “Bloody Idiot Drivers” or else we will report you to your ISP for insighting racial hatred, – a criminal offence. Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.
Jason, his post itself isn’t particularly racist. While it happens to mention that the idiot driver was Polish – I’m not sure it tars all Polish people with the same brush.
The title “Bloody Foreign Nationals” though, is a bit dodgy… so I’ve edited that.

That was not the issue Steve. It was the original title that was used on the thread that give rise to concern. I agree with the action was taken in editing the original title to the current one even though I dont believe that jonnerz intended to cause offence to any other person.

I totally agree, just to state that someone was driving a polish registered car should no way be construed as racist, that is just PC gone mad. Also if it was a Polish car with left hand drive he should take a lot more time before overtaking!
In relation to racism and driving. Racism is inciting hatred and discriminating against a person because of their nationality or ethnic origin.
There is no incitement or discrimination here.
This is factual reporting. The car made illegal and potentially fatal driving errors. It was Polish registered. We don’t know if the driver was Irish or Polish or wherever. The car was LHD and therefore relatively blinded to the view ahead.
The statistics show a disproportionate amount of accidents involving vehicles registered in Poland and the Baltic States.
Latvian enforcement of the rules of the road, including drink driving, is far more vigourous and draconian than the equivalent enforcement here. So Latvian drivers at least come from a culture where they are more likely to be caught and punished than here.
But we all see Latvian registered vehicles appearing to be driven with great vigour and enthusiasm here.
Would I be taken to task if I suggested that these drivers share the enthusiasm for speed and hurry that Irish people in the buidling trade exhibit.
If you travel in the early morning you will see the high speed drivers in their high visibility building trade jackets everywere.

There is an issue with foreign registered cars driving on the incorrect side of the road where i live. It is a bit nerve racking when your doing 70KPH and you see a car coming directly for you

But Ceanna Claar, I work in the building trade, i keep to the speed limits…& as we all know, half the Irish builders are from Eastern Europe…lol
Strange, I was behind two cars- they decided to overtake, both were in the process of passing when I was overtaken by a Polish car who then overtook the two cars. To do this the Polish car was now going the wrong way down the hard shoulder ! ! Case proven
have we become a nation where if you say or report anything to do with a foreign driver / car that we are racists?
i recently saw a ” foreign reg” car weaving in and out not giving cars their braking distance. so i leaned out the window and told the driver ” oi we have laws over here for driving”. does that make me a racist?
I think all drivers in this country should be made to take a driving test with a independant driving school from somewhere like england, as all drivers from here and who drive here should not be allowed on the road.
The driving level is terrible as nobody knows how to approach a roundabout or which lane to be in, undertaking on a motorway and L driviers on the M50 is shocking.
Ok, I’ll be flamed for this, but our driving “ability” excluding eastern european reg cars etc, thats for another discussion are a hell of a lot better than some other countries. For anyone that wants to experience what bad driving is, take a trip down from north Africa down to western africa, where jumping the central divide and driving against oncoming traffic on a 4 lane “highway” is allowed and considered normal if one feels that driving on this side of the road will get one to their location faster!!! and cars with no lights whatsoever ..none..not even reflective backing to the lights driving on unlit roads at night…. trust me..been there and have escaped enough collison there to say that really, we are good drivers, and as for condition of road surfaces, I made a promise to myself never to complain about our roads surfaces as our worst road surface is their best road surface.

Don’t tar all drivers with the one brush. Of course some drivers in this coiuntry know how to approach roundabouts, use lanes correctly etc. There are bad drivers in every country. I lived in the UK and US for years and they have just as great a share of dreadful drivers as we have (maybe more in the UK), so you are suffering from a touch of the Far Away Cows Have Long Horns syndrome.

I am Polish.
In Poland people don’t care to much about speed limits, continuous lines, pedestrians, etc.
I don’t really know why is that. Maybe they are not really affraid of police which is often very easy to .
No matter why is that, that’s the way it is in Poland. Overtaking is very popular. Most driver try to overtake. Even when the car in front is driving at speed 5km/h less then the one who wants to overtake. They overtake everywhere, no matter is it safe or not, legal or not.
I’ve been driving a lot on Polish roads and I know how it looks like.
When I arrived to Ireland for the first time, I was shocked how road traffic can look like. Everybody going one behind other. Almost nobody overtaking. Usually driving not breaking the speed limits.
Maybe thats slower but it’s definitly more safe, which I think is the most important on the road.
But many Polish drivers don’t understand it, and they still try to drive here, like they did in Poland.
And that’s the problem.
Hope it’ll be solved somehow.
But for now, I thing if someone see car with Polish reg, he should be careful about it, and should expect, that polish driver may drive dangerously.
Hope Garda will take care of this, and those Polish drivers how couldn’t change they driving style to Irish one, should have their driving licences banned.
And I, as Polish national, don’t thing that this is racism.
Irish drivers rarely overtake on continous lines,they’re all too busy undertaking.
