Early Morning Driving

I travel to work sometimes in the wee early hours when all you fine people are sleeping. The roads are not the normal rat race at 5am instead a new breed of drivers are out there and you must be ready to stop or brake at junctions that you have right of way! Many occupational drivers tend to yield or slow to a red light, glance left then right and floor it. Summer months tend to be more riskier as in winter you have lights beaming your passage ahead. The Garda presence around this time simply isnt. The boys will be at Belfield flyover doing motorists at 3pm for a few KM’s over the limit while at 5am its a free for all. Anything goes from red light ignorance to flat out speeds in the bus lanes undertaking the few cars that are out there to get to the city them 5 minutes sooner.

I agree with you on this… I am often on the road from 6am and find that people zoom past me with no regard for anyone or anything…. Earlier this week I witnessed a driver pass me at speed along a solid white line, a median on the road and approaching a school.

It would appear that the rules of the road do not exist at that time of the morning

One morning, just before 9am, I dropped into Mountjoy Garda station to report a driver that broke two sets of red lights.

The Garda said that when she comes in at 6am it’s very dangerous out there. I should have asked her what is being done about this known problem?

The Garda never got back to me. Jeez.

this has alway being a pet hate of mine, i used to leave kilkenny at 5am to be in dublin for about 7, this was only a few rare occosions. And jesus did it always scare the be-jaysus out of me. people over taking you, driving like idiots. But it doesn’t stop when you enter the pale, then you have the pre 7am rush of abusing the bus lane its a free for all!
I drive the n11 regularly between 6 and 7am, try doing the speed limit at these times and your in for a world of trouble.
I nearly had a left-hand drive car driving into the back of me, then over taking me dangourously on a dual carriage way!

Stay in bed then drive in normally at about 9am when the traffic dies down!!!

can anyone please tell me why there are never any speed checks in the phonenix park. i’m in the same line of work as you sickie but i have to disagree about “The roads are not the normal rat race at 5am ” i use the park to and from work and it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is be it 04.30 or 9pm this place if always a rat run.
i have been told that the park is private property so the guards cant place any speed checks here. is this actually correct?
